The OLSH Fine Arts department prepared a wondrous show for the community before Christmas break, with musical performances from the Concert & Chapel Choir, theatre students, and individual musicians. These performances were under the direction of music teacher Mr. Tomasello, theatre director Ms. Manuel, and Chapel Choir facilitator Mrs. Sellman. OLSH art teacher Mrs. Avery also displayed an array of artwork created by her students in Studio Art 1, Ceramics 1, 2, & 3, and AP Art.
The art show was open for visitors to view in the entrance upon arrival and during the intermission. Ceramic pieces from each of our three Ceramics courses were displayed. They included a wide variety of colors, shapes, and creative ideas – like hands sculpted to spell “OLSH” in sign language. The Studio 1 Art pieces on display included watercolor, line design, and sketching projects that have been completed over the course of the semester. Impressive AP Art pieces including a wide range of concentrations and genres were exhibited. Pieces from OLSH alumni Grace Avery ’22 and Delaney Woynar ’22, who are each studying different artistic concentrations in college, were also included in the show.
The musical performances presented to us by the Concert and Chapel Choirs were delightful and put everyone in a holiday mood. Songs performed by the choirs and soloists throughout the evening included “We Need a Little Christmas,” “O Holy Night,” “Lord, I Need You,” and other popular classics. Alumnus Matt McDevitt ’23 took the OLSH stage once more to accompany his sister Rachel ’25 and Bridget Fogle in their performance of “Something About December.” After a brief intermission, the cast of A Pirate Christmas presented selections from this year’s play. They provided us with a humorous holiday piece to enjoy while showcasing their theatrical talents. As a closing, the theater cast and the two choirs joined together to perform one last holiday song for their captive audience.
This evening of artistic celebration was a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit!
