On Friday May 10, 2024 I was invited to go to the Blackhawk High School prom, in Beaver Falls. I was eager to go as I was very curious to know how other schools celebrate their proms. I was picked up by my friend, and after taking some pictures we drove to the High School. Almost immediately I noticed the amount of people that were present. Not just students, but many parents and their kids as well. I was confused as to why they were there – before I realized that they were the audience for the Grand March. As we waited to be called down to the Gym for the Grand March, I noticed that their cafeteria was pretty small compared to the one at OLSH. There was also a lack of windows in the area, but luckily there was plenty of ventilation. Once we were called to the gym, we posed for the pictures and saw a lot of people cheering for us in the audience. Once all of that was done, it was time to go.
We had our bags checked by police officers before being escorted to a row of school buses in the parking area, and then we were off. It was about a 20 minute drive to the place where the prom was held. Once we got there, I noticed how beautiful the place was. The theme of the prom was Gatsby’s Gala, so it looked fresh out of the Roaring 20’s. There were many tables and the dance floor was in the middle of the hall. We waited for a few minutes to be called to get our food. The dinner was a choice of salad, mashed potatoes, pasta, fried chicken, and meatballs. The food was alright, but unfortunately we had to wait a while for the people to get more plates for us to serve our food, and there was a shortage of fried chicken; much to everyone’s disappointment.
Once we finished eating our food, my friend and I went off to take more pictures at the picture booth. There were also artists making drawings of people there, but since the line was too long we didn’t get the chance to go. The dance started at around 8 pm, and the DJ hyped everyone up with his song selections. While I didn’t recognize many of the songs, I could tell that the people there loved them. I could also tell that those songs would not be played at an OLSH event. Ever.
My friend and I danced the whole night, and then the prom court was announced. At about 11 pm, the seniors were called to the dance floor for one final dance together, and after that, the prom was over. We walked back to the buses outside and then we were dropped off back at the High School and went home. I had fun at the Blackhawk prom, the people there were nice and the place was beautiful. While it doesn’t compare much to an OLSH event like homecoming, it still had its charm as a memorable night for everyone present.
