As Christmas is fast approaching, all everyone wants to do is snuggle in a warm blanket with a cup of hot chocolate and watch their favorite Christmas movies. The freshman class was asked some questions about their favorite Christmas movies.
The questions were:
- What is the best live action Christmas movie?
- What is the best animated Christmas movie?
- What is your favorite “A Christmas Carol” adaptation?
- What is the best Grinch movie?
- Is The Nightmare Before Christmas a Christmas movie, a Halloween movie, or both?
53 of the freshmen responded.
Live action Christmas movies are basically their own genre of film. They are all so different. The freshmen voted on some of the most popular ones that are a must-watch for many people. Out of Elf, Home Alone, A Christmas Story, and The Santa Clause, Home Alone got 54.7% (29 votes) of the votes, Elf got 35.8% of the votes (19 votes), and A Christmas Story got 5.7% of the votes (3 votes). The Santa Clause got 3.8% of the votes (2 votes), making it the least popular of the 4.
There are many animated Christmas movies that are all very different. The freshmen voted on which out of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and Charlie Brown Christmas is the best. Charlie Brown Christmas got 24 votes (45.3% of the votes), Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer got 17 votes (32.1% of the votes). Frosty the Snowman is the least popular of the three in the freshmen class, only getting 12 votes (22.6% of the votes).
There are many different adaptations of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. The freshmen voted on some of the more popular versions, including the Muppets A Christmas Carol, Disney’s A Christmas Carol, and Mickey’s Christmas Carol. The Muppets A Christmas Carol got 22 votes (41.5% of the votes), making it the most popular. Disney’s A Christmas Carol got 13 votes (24.5% of the votes) while Mickey’s Christmas Carol got 8 votes (15.1% of the votes), making it the least popular. 10 freshmen (18.9% of the voters) prefer to watch any live-action adaptation of this classic tale.
Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas has been popular since the book was released in 1957. Three movie adaptations have been made. Almost half of the freshmen voters prefer the live action version that stars Jim Carrey (26 voters; 49.1%). The original movie adaptation, made in 1967, got 13 votes (24.5% of the votes), while the 2018 animated version received 14 votes (26.4% of the votes).
The freshmen weighed in on one of the most common debates about a Disney movie: Is The Nightmare Before Christmas a Christmas movie, a Halloween movie, or both? They were almost evenly divided between two: Halloween and both. 25 think that it is a Halloween movie while 24 think that it is both. Only 3 people think that it is a Christmas movie.
