Haunted Mansion is a new take on the Disney classic, The Haunted Mansion.

Haunted Mansion was recently released on July 28, 2023. The movie is a scarier take on The Haunted Mansion, which was released in 2003. We get taken through the film by the main character Ben Matthias. He was an astrophysicist before his wife Alyssa died, which is when he decided to make a special camera to capture the presence of spirits hoping to see his wife one last time. One morning, a priest shows up at Ben’s house asking him, “You wanna be a hero?” This one question leads Ben to enter a haunted mansion, eventually saving the life of a little boy and freeing the trapped spirits within the mansion. 

The plot of this film was very enjoyable for me as it wasn’t the normal disney movie. I felt it was a good mix of grief and joyful memories. I especially liked the way that the movie carefully puts into perspective the great suffering that someone feels when dealing with the death of a loved one. 

This film, although made by Disney, was a little chilling. It wasn’t your average horror film, but I personally enjoyed the random jumpscares throughout it. 

One of the best jumpscares in my opinion is when Ben encounters Alistair Crump up close. I didn’t really find it scary, but it adds to the whole plot of the film with Crump being one of the creepiest ghosts along with him needing to be defeated in the end.
