Brandon Brazell: Putting the “Student” in Student Athlete

Brandon Brazell is a junior football and baseball player here at OLSH. Brandon has a strong faith, which shows just by talking to him. He is a great example of living your faith life without being afraid of what others may think.
Q: What are all the activities you do at OLSH?
A: “I’m in baseball, football, Student Ambassadors, Campus Ministry, lector, altar server, choir, Junior Achievement, and Character Alliance.”
Q: How do you balance doing all of these activities?
A: “Worry about just one thing at a time and try to get that done as productively as possible.”
Q: What is the most challenging part of being in all of these activities?
A: “It is hard to put equal and full effort in everything I do.”
Q: What is your favorite activity and why?
A: “Baseball because the team is fun to be around.”
Q: What college are you thinking about? A dream school?
A: “UC Santa Barbara”
Q: What’s the hardest class to keep up with?
A: “AP Bio”
Q: How long have you been doing each of these activities?
A: “I‘ve been doing baseball since I could hold a bat, so around 2 or 3. I’ve done football since 5th grade and baseball- ⅔ football- 5th grade ja-2.”
Q: What is the most rewarding activity you do?
A: “Character Alliance.”
Q: What does your typical day look like?
A: “School, chapel, some kind of activity or sport, then homework.”
Q: What/who motivates you?
A: “My mom and dad.”
Q: What career path are you interested in?
A: “Law or criminal justice.”
Q: Why/how did you get into baseball and football? Any stories?
A: “My parents. My dad played same sports–baseball and football–and my mom played softball.”
Q:What advice do you have for underclassmen trying to balance sports, school, and activities?
A: “Focus on schoolwork as soon as you get it.”
Q: What do you do outside of OLSH?
A: “Hangout with friends, travel baseball, go to the gym.”
Q: Do you have any accomplishments that you are proud of?
A: “Getting highest honors.”
Q: What goals are you working towards?
A: “W.P.I.A.L. championship for baseball, and a higher GPA.”
