The Fake News of Covington Catholic

“Fake News, Folks” – President Donald J. Trump.

The story of the white (MAGA hat wearing) Covington Catholic teenager, harassing a Native American War Veteran has been covered by just about every major news network, sparking outrage among the American viewers and understandably so.

It’s never okay to disrespect others. On social media people have even expressed their desire to punch the teenager in his “cheesy-grinned” face, as well as sending him vicious death threats. The short video of the stare down, CNN’s interview with Nathan Phillips, and articles from major media outlets makes it very obvious that this President Trump-supporting, conservative Catholic teen is nothing more that an arrogant racist. This is what the media wants its viewers to believe.

But it’s just not true.

The incident is merely another example of how major media outlets, with its liberal bias, can sway viewers and readers to believe what they want them to believe. Trump refers to this style of reporting as fake news.

Here’s how the tale goes: Covington Catholic, a school from Park Hills, KY, participated in the 2019 March For Life in Washington D. C., on Jan. 18, the same day as the Indigenous Peoples March. An Instagram video appeared to show a group of Covington Catholic students halting the route of the Indigenous Peoples March went viral. Nathan Phillips, a 64 year-old Native American and Vietnam War veteran was singing and beating the drums when a Covington Catholic student glared at him with a belittling smug grin on his face. The rest of the students began mocking and taunting the Native Americans.

Phillips, in an interview with CNN, said the group of students began chanting, “Build the wall, build the wall!” until he broke down crying. Liberals and a number of Conservatives agreed that this was a horrible example of racism and it is an unacceptable act in this great country.

The story, though, was later proven false.

An uncut, 90-video was released and nowhere is it found that the students chanted, “Build the wall.” What the video does show is this: The altercation began with a third party, the Black Israelite Group, which began screaming at and harassing the students as well as the Native Americans. The students were not blocking the Native American’s route; they were simply waiting for their bus as they were excitedly shouting their school cheer with passionate school spirit. The Black Israelite was attracted by the noise and called out their red MAGA (Make America Great Again) baseball caps as well as calling them “school shooters” and telling them to, “go back to Europe.” The students did nothing to retaliate.

Then Phillips and the American Indians become involved. They changed their route and chose to go directly to the students. Phillips begins banging his drums and the already hyped student section begins singing and dancing with him, jumping to the beat. Phillips got right in the face of a student, Nick Sandmann. It appears that Phillips is trying to raise a reaction from Sandmann, but he does nothing but stare and smile. Somehow that was a good enough reaction for multiple liberal news networks to use and so the headlines read “TEEN WEARING RED MAGA HAT TAUNTS DRUM-BEATING NATIVE AMERICAN DURING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES MARCH”.

Granted some students were mocking the Native Americans which is unacceptable, but in the aftermath, Sandmann and the fellow students were the true victims. Research later showed that Phillips is a lifelong leftist activist and that his claim to have served in the Vietnam War was false.

The media managed to turn this event into something it was not, something fake. The media saw these Pro-Life, Catholic school, Trump supporting students and showed the public what they wanted to show them. The media will promote anything to make Donald Trump and his political party look inferior, even at the cost of students’ reputations. Joy Behar, Democrat and co-host on ABC’s The View when asked why the media continues to make the same mistakes, said, “Because we’re desperate to get Trump out of office.” Differing opinions are part of a democratic process, but most of the media has a one-sided liberal bias as seen here and it is brutally obvious. Texas Representative, Dan Crenshaw posted on social media, calling out the media, listing the “Media Blunders this week: hardly any coverage of #MarchforLife, and slandering Covington Catholic students over false narrative.” Both of which “are fundamentally anti-Christian. Just last 7 days.” This leftist bias in the media is no secret and the Covington Catholic coverage is another piece evidence.

For major media outlets such as CNN, MSNBC, Washington Post, Politico, Buzzfeed, and Vox, among others, this was not a mistake. This was a lie.

The leftist bias in the media is no secret. Donald Trump’s claims of fake news is real and it is important for the American people to be aware of fake news.
