Brett Kavanaugh

Justice Anthony Kennedy retired on July 31, 2018, and President Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh as his replacement. During his confirmation hearing, Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault, and on September 27th, 2018, the Senate held a hearing for Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford. Both of them had powerful testimonies, but those testimonies directly contradicted each other. There is not a lot of evidence for this case, so the Senate cannot conclusively validate either side’s case. Despite the media’s attempt to gain political power and make the case about sexual assault, Kavanaugh is more credible because of the character witnesses who testified on his behalf, and because he presented the only hard evidence in this case.

Kavanaugh’s case began with establishing his character. Kavanaugh testified in his opening statement that he was innocent and said these allegations have destroyed his family and his reputation. Although Kavanaugh faced this inquest, he still felt empathetic toward Ford because of the mud-slinging she had faced from the Right.  He stated that he and his daughter prayed for Ford and that he admired his daughter’s empathy by saying: “it’s a lot of wisdom from a 10-year-old”. In addition to his faith, a number of character witnesses testified on his behalf and supported his assertions about his character and behavior.

The next point of discussion is Kavanaugh’s calendar. Kavanaugh showed his 1982 calendar to further demonstrate his character. His family tradition of keeping calendars proved an important piece of evidence. When looking at the calendars, especially the months of June, July, and August, one can see that Kavanaugh was unfathomably busy.  Although this does not entirely prove his innocence, it shows extracurriculars he was involved with and how much schoolwork he was busy with. He explained this is why he did not have the time to be partying all around town. Christine Ford has not disclosed where and when the alleged assault happened. Ford recalls it happening when they were in high school together, but has not released a date, or even a location. Without specifics, Kavanaugh’s calendar from 1982 seems to disprove her claim because it does not show any parties on the calendar. (Scarcella, National Law Journal) The Democrats  interrogated Kavanaugh about his high school drinking. Amy Klobuchar asked Kavanaugh if he had ever blacked-out to which he responded: “I don’t know. Have you?”. The tone of his response prompted Democrats and mainstream media to say Kavanaugh wasn’t as credible as Ford because of his aggressive and irritable mood during the hearing. (Bradner, CNN)

The Republicans, on the other hand, were more empathetic toward Kavanaugh. Before questioning him, some would apologize for the mud-slinging that he had to face such as being called a rapist.  Republican Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina berated the Democrats and accused them of being unfair to Kavanaugh by saying “This is the most unethical sham since I’ve been in politics, and if you really wanted to know the truth, you sure as hell wouldn’t do what you’ve done to this guy.” Graham continued to exclaim his anger by saying “Boy Y’all want power. God, I hope you never get it,” Graham’s Frustration showed the intensity and emotional nature of the hearings.

This whole incident doesn’t seem to be about sexual assault, but about pushing a political agenda. It’s oddly convenient for the Democrats to have this come out now. If Ford’s accusations were true, it is questionable as to why she waited so long to tell someone. It is also suspicious as to why some of the details of the event, such as the date, time and place, are not clear to her. If the people of The United States aren’t cautious of the media, then rape, or sexual assault cases will end up being ‘guilty until proven innocent’ by the media. The number of people on The Left who have been tricked by Ford’s testimony is alarming. None of the witnesses Ford called upon have corroborated her story.  Ford says she named the suspect (Kavanaugh) in a counseling session. (Byrd, Post, and Courier) If so, Ford’s therapist should have been brought in for testimony, and to state his/her analysis of Ford. The therapist would have been able to tell if Ford had faced actual trauma in her life and it could only have helped Ford’s credibility.

This whole allegation against Brett Kavanaugh has embarrassed the U.S. government by proving how the media  can make something out of nothing. Considering all of these details, Ford must have mistaken the identity, or does not remember what may have really happened. The real issue with this whole incident is that Kavanaugh is being treated as guilty until proven innocent, or at least the left-leaning media and liberals have tried to portray it that way. Some would say people on the Right are just as guilty of treating it the other way around. However, the people on the Right are abiding by the principles of justice that the United States values while the Left is using the media to convey a story that does not hold up in a court of law. This is a big problem, to say the least.  Kavanaugh cannot disprove the claim with hard evidence, but in the same sense, Ford cannot conclusively prove it happened. Therefore, Kavanaugh is not culpable due to the fact that Ford cannot prove her allegation. (Zhong, The Epoch Times)

We should take the media with a grain of salt in these types of allegations and trials. The media jumps the gun before facts come in and can tarnish a person’s reputation before they can even defend themselves. The media is supposed to be informative and unbiased, instead of  pushing a political agenda and the world should not be so concerned with sensationalized garbage that only muddies the water.
