Music for the soul

Camillia Senvisky, 2019, Freelance

Hello OLSH! I’m Camillia Senvisky, you may or may not know me. I’m writing this today because I love music. I transferred this year to OLSH, and at my previous school I wrote an article about music monthly. It was such a wonderful experience for me, so I would love if I could successfully continue it here. The scheme of what I do is I write about one newer music artist as well as an older one that I selected for each article. Why? I hope to reach out to my readers and expand my and their variety of music that we listen to. While writing before I’ve found that it is vital and fantastic to explore the vast world of music. And in one way or another we can all find music tucked away in an important part of our life. Whether it be to break the silence, distract yourself from something, relax, or help you focus, music weaves its way throughout our lives. I also really enjoy listening to what other people like; it helps me better understand them, as it could for anyone else. So I would absolutely love if you came and talked to me about music or gave an anonymous submission, and I would make sure to mention you in the resulting article if you’d like. So, without further delay, I’m very excited to talk about my music selection for this month! I chose the band Arcade Fire with the album Reflektor.
Reflektor was an album released October 28, 2013 (so, not as new I guess haha), and I’ve listened to it so much. Perhaps because I think it’s great for creative inspiration. The first song is titled Reflektor, and offers a spectacular opening with its fresh funky vibes. In the song, there are two French lines that are repeated twice. They translate to, “Between the night, the night and the dawn. Between the realm of the living and the dead”. But don’t worry the rest is in English so you can understand and relate. Those lines send a chill through my spine every time I hear them.
Then the album wraps up with the last song titled Supersymmetry. This song is more chilled with its soft beats and meaningful heartfelt lyrics. If you’re wondering what’s in between those songs you’ll have to do so on your own.
Now a small bit more about the band who created that album, Arcade Fire. They’re primarily an Indie rock band whose music always has that psychedelic thrill. They make music you surely can dance to, so definitely check them out. Also, one of my favorite albums by them, is The Suburbs.
If you listen to them or have before, I strongly urge you to share your opinion with me! They are the only music I’ll be featuring this month because I wanted to offer a brief background on myself. I always encourage feedback! So if you read my article I will be delighted to know what you think. Likes, dislikes, music selections, what you thought of my choice, anything is great! I’m always looking for something new and like to listen to my peers, email me at csenvisky@olsh.org. Now, at the risk of being to wordy, I bid you adieu! Thanks for taking the time to read my article. Until next month, happy listening!
