Class of 2016 – Two-time champs!

Evie Hoff, 2017, Staff

On the evening of Saturday September 19, the OLSH Junior and Senior girls played an exciting game of tag football against each other in the annual PowderPuff football game. This was the first year that the event did not start out with a mass, so the festivities were pushed back half an hour to begin at 6:00. Though both teams fought hard, and were cheered on by their friends and classmates in the stands, the seniors triumphed in the end with a score of 28-14. This was the second win in a row for the athletic class of 2016- they also won as Juniors last year. Prior to the start of the game, students were able to participate in many outdoor activities while enjoying the late summer evening weather. It all began with an all-American dinner of hot dogs and nachos, which the students enjoyed inside the Youthtown barn during a perfectly timed downpour that ended just in time for the outdoor activities to begin. Once the sun came out again, the students emerged to play corn hole or to walk around the lake to get to the bonfire, which included a table full of marshmallows and other scrumptious ingredients like ice cream cones, skittles, and Oreos that they used to make a variety of unique s’mores. Almost all of the students waited behind the barn at one point so that they could go on the hayride. Once on, they meandered all around Youthtown, taking in the scenic landscape while laughing and chatting with friends. It was a special experience for the Class of 2016. “Playing in the PowderPuff game these past two years has been amazing and a lot of fun.” said Senior Mary Kosher. “It brings all of the girls in our grade together, and it feels like family.”
“Watching my team win for the second year in a row has been great, and the bonfire was awesome. I will definitely miss going to PowderPuff.” said senior Emily Efthiamitus. Fun was had by all at the PowderPuff game, one of OLSH’s most beloved traditions.
